Volunteer at OPTIONS
OPTIONS volunteers range in age, starting as young as 12 and going up. No matter what their age, all of our volunteers have a special talent they lend. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call 985-345-6269, ext. 111. Types of Volunteers at OPTIONSBoard
Volunteers
OPTIONS volunteer Board of Directors is made
up of motivated business professionals and family members who have an interest
in the overall operation of OPTIONS. The
board is made up of several teams responsible for such things as awareness,
development, policies, finances, legislative issues, maintenance and
fundraising. Business/Professional
Volunteers
Business/professional
volunteers are those people who lend their resources and/or expertise in a
particular field to benefit OPTIONS in some way.
Examples have included a professor who partners with OPTIONS for a class
project or an insurance agent who gives information for use in publications or
other purposes.
Family
Volunteers
Family volunteers are
those people who are related to the people we serve and volunteer their time and
services to OPTIONS. Examples of things they do include fund raising,
coordinating social activities, calling other family members to inform them of
upcoming events, speaking to legislators and other business leaders about
OPTIONS, welcoming new family volunteers to the OPTIONS family, and
keeping a scrapbook of events.
Community
Volunteers
Community volunteers are
those people who live in the community and spend time volunteering with the
people we support on a one-on-one basis, with a few people, and/or with large
groups of people. Some of the
things they do include teaching creation of wood works, helping with work
objectives and goals, spending leisure time, dining out, shopping, picnicking,
etc., and sometimes helping with office work.
Student
Volunteers
Student volunteers are
those students who spend time volunteering at OPTIONS under a Service Learning
program. This gives students the
opportunity to learn more about people with disabilities and earn school credits
needed to graduate. Student
volunteers usually spend a semester or two volunteering for one hour, four days
weekly. They assist the people we support with work objectives, such
as shredding paper, crushing paper, making logo buttons, packaging flatware,
learning simple computer skills, and assembling items for work orders.
